Overview:
The I Walk 4 Glaucoma and Health Awareness Challenge is an exciting event organized by Tambaram Ophthalmic Society (TOS) in partnership with IMA Tambaram and several health and wellness organizations. A daily step count challenge is being organised from 1st february and concludes on 9th March with a Rally and walk. The event, being held on 9th March 2025, commemorates World Glaucoma Week (March 9-15, 2025) and World Sleep Day (March 14, 2025). The walkathon aims to raise awareness about glaucoma, promote eye health, and highlight the importance of good sleep for overall health.
Objectives:
Raise awareness for Glaucoma: The primary aim is to highlight the significance of early detection and treatment of glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness.
Promote Physical Fitness: The walkathon encourages people to engage in physical activity to improve cardiovascular health, which also helps in managing conditions like glaucoma.
Celebrate World Sleep Day: Raise awareness about the importance of good sleep hygiene in maintaining overall health and preventing conditions like glaucoma.
Empower Women: In conjunction with International Women’s Day (March 8), the event aims to promote awareness about women’s health, particularly eye health and sleep.
Event Plan:
Flag-Off: The event will start at 5:30 AM with a Walk Flag-Off for the 5 km & 3 km walk.
Warm-Up Session: A short warm-up session will take place from 6:00 AM to 6:15 AM to prepare participants for the walk.
