The Somali Blind Union (SBU) was established in 3rd February 2021. It is the first national organization representing blind and partially sighted people across Somalia. It is organized and managed by inspired medical doctors as well as people with visual impairment. It aims to seek the rights of blind and partially sighted people, encourage their independence and self-determination, and strive for equality, equity and opportunities.

At SBU, we aspire to create an environment in which no one is needlessly visually impaired, where everyone has access to the best possible standard of eye health, and where those with irreparable vision loss achieve their full potential.
