GREEN GLAUCOMA CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP

The overarching goal of this match was to educate the general public attending the event about the disease called “glaucoma.” Every single protocol of this cricket match was specifically designed with a glaucomatous nomenclature to educate the public gathering at various phases of the cricket match. The match started with the “Gonioscopic Toss,” with the captain calling for open angles or close angles instead of the routine heads or tails.
All awards were named based on the diagnostic and treatment components of glaucoma. The championship award for the team winning the match was named the “Green Glaucoma Cricket Championship.” The player of the match was named “Ocular Hypertensive Man of the Match” with the leading run-scorer being awarded the “Applanative Tonometric Batsman”, most economical and wicket-taking bowler being named “Compliant Economic Bowler”, batsmen with the most boundaries named “Peripheral Iridotomic Batsmen”, and the most electrifying fielder being named “Visual Fielder”. Our motto for this Green Glaucoma Cricket Championship between the Open Angle Glaucoma and Closed Angle Sixers was “Glaucoma diagnosis wins you matches, but compliance toward therapy, follow-up, and re-treatment, if necessary, wins you the tournament.” Raising public awareness and knowledge of glaucoma is the key to addressing the overwhelming consequences of this disease. Hence, we aimed to promote awareness and knowledge of glaucoma and associated factors through cricket because, in India, cricket is like a religion, and Indians’ love for the sport is unparalleled.
