Glaucoma International Symposium Detect and Treat Glaucoma
THE CLOSING EVENT OF THE CROATIAN NATIONAL WORLD GLAUCOMA WEEK CAMPAIGN
It is well known that glaucoma is a disease that should be treated for the rest of
life, so choosing the right type of treatment is an important decision and a great
responsibility that affects not only the quality of life of the patient but also the quality
of life of his family and social environment.
The decision to treat glaucoma is not an easy one, because it opens up a number
of questions and it is a great challenge in our daily work. What do we need to know
before making the decision about the treatment and type of therapy for each patient?
How to assess the effectiveness of the type of treatment for each patient? What
are the differences among medications and which mechanisms of action are hidden
in there? When is the laser not effective and why? Why is not a surgical treatment
always a long lasting solution and why is it important to know the principles of
surgical techniques? Identical therapy is effective among some patients, while not
among others – why?
These are just some of the issues which will be covered in lectures and which we will
discuss together this year, hopefully in person, in larger number as possible.
