Seminar on Increasing Awareness regarding Glaucoma

On this occasion, the Ophthalmology department of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital celebrated World Glaucoma Week from 7th March to 13th March of 2021. Apart from clinical detection, diagnosis, and treatment of glaucoma in our daily OPD, an awareness program was arranged in our department.

All senior and junior residents, house surgeon, Senior optometrist and B Opt. students and interns attended this meeting.

Prof. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Daulat Thakur and Dr Sanjib Kumar Purkait gave talks regarding the role of optometrists in increasing the glaucoma awareness in rural population and diagnosis of glaucoma in rural settings. They also discussed the basic pathogenesis and the common symptoms of glaucoma. The definition, risk factors, screening of glaucoma were also discussed in brief. As glaucoma awareness is still very poor in this area, optometrists can play an important role in screening glaucoma patients and referring them to the hospital, apart from building awareness among the general population.
